Collaborative learning is a new type of learning emphasis in colleges today. The idea is that education should be competency based rather than assessment based. This has led to a revolutionary rethinking of education, as teachers veer away from standardized classrooms, there is a movement towards collaboration. This means that teachers and students work together to work on the education cooperatively. The benefit for this type of learning situation is that the student learns more than facts and figures, but a more rounded type of learning by experience. This also includes utilizing the knowledge from different professors, and not just one. This means that students are able to get many perspectives before coming up with a conclusion.
Collaborative learining is also a widely used online tool. This is a great way to find instructors in other countries that can help with learning, and this is something that would not be possible in the brick and mortar setting. Students are able to gather important information from sources that are possibly unapproachable, or that would be hard to find if found as a facutly on a campus. Students can hypothesize points, and bounce ideas off of experts. This is a great way to learn as students are able to succeed the top of Bloom’s Taxanomy by being able to synthesize material. This is key for people to really learn and apply information, especially if this is a capstone type of class that students need in order to succeed in their chosen field.
